Outdoor Canvas (Our Week Outdoors Part II)

Our week outdoors continues!  You can read more about the start of our week here where we made bubble snakes and a solar oven.

Thursday - We did make more bubble snakes when some friends came over, which they all enjoyed, plus there was lots of chalking going on, but no pictures, sorry!

Friday - The boys went on a bit of a bug hunt and made a home for a woodlouse and a ladybird!  But, Little Dude kept me busy so again no pictures.

Saturday - A trip to the zoo, yey!  We had an awesome day out with friends and saw heaps of animals - Elephants, Chimpanzees, Lions, Rhinos, Giraffes, Sea lions, Parrots, Meerkats to name a few.

The boys loved it, but the picture that made me laugh the most is this one of Champ.  We went to the lion enclosure and ALL the lions were sleeping right beside the viewing area, so there is literally inches between Champ and a lion and what was he doing?  Digging in the dirt, oblivious to the magnificent animal right beside him!  Sigh!

Sunday - Another wet day, argh!!  When will the British Summer actually begin???  Although the boys now look forward to their play in the rain (Bud in particular is very keen that we work our way through our rainy day list, probably as I included 'mud surfing' on it!), I much prefer the sunny days, oh well!

We started out using the sledge to float some plastic boats in and we set out all our bowls etc to collect the rain.  Then the chalks were floated on the boats and then things developed from there and the boys started chalking everything, the pavement, the water butt, themselves and finally the trampoline....

... this is where we discovered we actually have our own ready made giant canvas!  The wet chalks worked great on our little trampoline and we had a great time drawing.

Even better was the discovery that with a wet sponge our chalk pictures wiped away really easily and we could draw again.  A lot of fun and we were out there ages despite the rain.  I'm sure this would work well in the sunshine, if you give it a go let me know!

  1. How clever to use the trampoline for an outdoor canvas. We hung fabric and did big mural painting outside in April. We need to do it again. http://jennifischer.blogspot.com/2012/04/cinco-de-mayo-inspired-diego-rivera.html

  2. The trampoline is a great canvas!

The picture with the lion is fantastic. At first glance, I thought your son was petting the lion!
